DupTabOff privacy policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

DupTabOff is a browser extension made by Purple Wonton ("we"), the trading name of an individual seller based in Bengaluru, India. It finds duplicate tabs, removes or colour-marks the extra copies, and saves and restores tab sessions.

What DupTabOff reads

To find duplicates, DupTabOff reads the web address, title and icon of your open tabs. With Pro's prevention mode, it also notices when a tab starts loading a new address, so it can switch you to a copy that's already open; those addresses are checked on the spot and not stored. When you save a session, it also reads which tabs are pinned and which tab groups they belong to. This happens entirely inside your browser. Tab information is never sent to us or anyone else.

What DupTabOff stores

DupTabOff saves these in your browser's extension storage:

• your settings (synced to your other Chrome browsers if you use Chrome sync)
• named sessions you choose to save, with any folder name and note you give them, and automatic backups if you use Pro: the addresses, titles, pinned state and tab groups of those tabs (the last 24 backups are kept)
• tabs you snooze (Pro): their address, title, icon and the time they should come back, until they reopen
• your theme and text size choices, which tips you've seen, and which milestone you were last congratulated on
• when each open tab was last used, so "close tabs you haven't used" works on older versions of Chrome
• whether you've started the free trial (also kept in Chrome sync, if you use it), and whether you've answered the "Enjoying DupTabOff?" question
• the addresses of the last batch of tabs it removed, so Undo can reopen them
• the last 10 pages stopped by prevention mode (Pro), so you can reopen them from the popup, and whether you've seen the one-time tip about prevention mode
• how many duplicate tabs it has removed
• your Pro license key and status, if you bought Pro

If you download a backup file, it contains your saved sessions and is stored wherever you save it. When you share a session (Pro), DupTabOff makes a small web page of that session's links on your computer; it's not uploaded anywhere, and only the people you choose to send it to will see it. Uninstalling DupTabOff deletes everything it stored in the browser.

What DupTabOff sends

DupTabOff contacts the internet only when you use Pro. When you activate a license key, and about once a week after that, DupTabOff sends the key and the product ID to Gumroad (api.gumroad.com) to confirm the purchase is valid. Gumroad's own privacy policy covers that request and your purchase.

When you use "Copy all tab links" or "Copy as text", the addresses go only to your clipboard. Searching your tabs happens inside the popup and nothing you type is sent anywhere. DupTabOff has no ads, no analytics, no trackers and no accounts. Your data is never sold or shared.
